College Profile: Villanova University

I love visiting colleges that enjoy close proximity to a major city but are situated on a beautiful campus that feels a world away. Villanova is one of these special schools. It’s a wonderful midsize private school with a highly engaged student body, tremendous school spirit, top-notch academics, and a stellar faculty. For students interested in work or internship opportunities in Philadelphia, they are only a 20-minute train ride away.

Fun Facts:

  • Villanova University is the only Augustinian Catholic university in the U.S.

  • The campus spans 260 acres, located just 12 miles from Philadelphia.

History:

  • Founded in 1842 by the Order of St. Augustine, Villanova has grown into a prestigious institution known for its rigorous academics and strong moral foundation.

Traditions:

  • Villanova’s vibrant traditions include the annual "Hoops Mania," a kickoff event for the basketball season, and usually includes exciting performances. Basketball is a big deal here and the students love supporting the team at games.

  • "Special Olympics Fall Festival," the largest student-run Special Olympics event in the world.

Student Statistics:

  • Villanova has around 6,700 full-time undergraduates and 3,100 graduate students.

  • 98.9% of undergraduates find placement after graduation.

I found the campus to be stunning and full of unique and exciting opportunities for students. Each student I talked to mentioned how Villanova truly feels like a home.
