College Profile: Vanderbilt University

Today, I get to profile my personal favorite school (since it’s my alma mater!), Vanderbilt University. Situated in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt offers a blend of academic excellence, rich traditions, and a welcoming campus community. The school offers a stunning traditional campus where students live all four years, but is completely surrounded by fabulous restaurants and music venues, and all that Nashville has to offer. Vanderbilt is consistently ranked as one of the happiest campuses in the country.



Campus Highlights:


  • Architectural Beauty: As you stroll through Vanderbilt's campus, you'll be greeted by a wonderful mix of historic and modern architecture. From the iconic Kirkland Hall to the sleek designs of the Engineering and Science Building, every corner offers something unique to admire. As you will notice if you visit campus, something new is always on the horizon and you will likely see some construction as the school continues to enhance the student experience.

  • The Commons: A central hub for student life, it's a vibrant community where students engage in discussions, events, and activities.

  • The Peabody College: Renowned for its education and human development programs, the Peabody College at Vanderbilt is a center of innovation and research. Whether you're passionate about teaching, psychology, or human development, you'll find top-notch resources and faculty here to support your academic journey.

  • The Vanderbilt Arboretum: Escape the hustle and bustle of classes and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, as the entire campus is designated as an arboretum. There are over 190 species of trees and shrubs, with the oldest and most famous on campus being the Bicentennial Oak.

  • Cornelius Vanderbilt's Legacy: Founded in 1873 with a generous endowment from shipping and railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, the university has since evolved into a prestigious institution known for its academic excellence and commitment to service.

  • Rites of Spring: Celebrate the arrival of spring with Rites of Spring, Vanderbilt's annual music festival. Featuring performances by both established and up-and-coming artists, it's a weekend filled with music, food, and fun, enjoyed by students and the Nashville community alike. I still have the shirts from each year I attended as a student!

Admissions:


Vanderbilt offers Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision. They will also continue to be Test Optional through Fall of 2027. They take a holistic approach to application review.


Financial Aid and Scholarships:


Vanderbilt is committed to making education accessible and affordable for all students. Generous financial aid packages and merit-based scholarships are available to help offset the cost of tuition and fees. Be sure to explore the various scholarship opportunities and submit any required documentation by the specified deadlines.
