I was born in Miami and love the area. The University of Miami has always been close to my heart. UM, established in 1925 during South Florida's real estate boom, has evolved into a top-tier research institution nestled in the vibrant city of Coral Gables. There is so much to do in this area and it is filled with constant activity and opportunity. With students from around the globe, UM offers a rich array of academic programs and a dynamic campus life.

  • Founding Vision: In 1925, George E. Merrick, the founder of Coral Gables, generously donated 160 acres and nearly $5 million to establish the University of Miami, laying the foundation for its future growth. 

  • Pioneering Integration: In 1961, UM became a trailblazer in the Deep South by ending its policy of racial segregation, admitting Black students, and integrating them into all student activities and athletic teams.

  • Iron Arrow Honor Society: Founded in 1926, Iron Arrow is the highest honor one can attain at UM. Members are selected based on character, leadership, humility, scholarship, and love of alma mater, and they wear distinctive Seminole patchwork jackets symbolizing their esteemed status.
