Last week I had the opportunity to tour UCLA out in sunny California. The campus exceeded all expectations. While UCLA has a fairly large student body, the campus provides an intimate experience where students constantly see others they know, but have the chance to meet new people all the time. The traditions, opportunities, and pathways to success are boundless at this school. It is also surrounded by the charming town of Westwood, filled with wonderful restaurants and shops.
Fun Facts:
UCLA is often referred to as the "University of California, Lots of Applications" due to its popularity—over 100,000 applicants annually! If you are interested, don’t let that deter you!
The campus is home to iconic movie scenes, including from Legally Blonde and Inception.
The school colors, blue and gold, symbolize the sky and California’s poppies.
History:
Founded in 1919, UCLA began as a teacher's college and has since grown into a world-renowned institution, known for its research, academics, and contributions to the arts and sciences.
Traditions:
Midnight Yell: During finals week, students release stress by collectively yelling at midnight.
Beat 'SC Week: A week-long celebration leading up to the UCLA vs. USC football game.
Bruin Bash: A yearly music festival that kicks off the school year with performances by top artists.
Student Stats:
UCLA is highly diverse, with over 45,000 students representing over 100 countries.
There are over 1,200 student organizations, from academic societies to cultural clubs.
UCLA’s sports teams, the Bruins, have won over 100 NCAA championships, making it a powerhouse in collegiate athletics.
The community on campus is vibrant and inclusive, making it an exciting place for prospective students. Anything a student would want to try is readily available and there are numerous resources to help students with internships, research and other academic opportunities.
