College Profile: Frostburg State University

On a recent trip to Western Maryland, I stopped in for a tour of Frostburg State University. I found a pretty campus, relaxed vibe, wonderful facilities, and enthusiastic students. With an undergraduate population of just under 4,500, students have access to 47 undergraduate majors and small class sizes to really get to know their professors and other students.



Fun Facts:


  • Scenic Campus: Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland, the campus offers breathtaking views year-round. Students can expect scenic foliage in the fall, and beautiful snow in the winter. During my visit, the first flowers for spring were starting to bloom. 

  • Outdoor Adventures: With the mountains at the doorstep, outdoor enthusiasts will find endless opportunities for hiking, skiing, and exploring nature. With a close proximity to state parks and trails, Frostburg is a haven for those who love the great outdoors.

  • History: Founded in 1898, Frostburg State University has a rich history dating back over a century. From its humble beginnings as a teacher's college to its evolution into a comprehensive university, Frostburg has remained dedicated to academic excellence and student success.

  • Homecoming at Frostburg is a time-honored tradition filled with spirited festivities, including a parade, tailgating, and the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen. Alumni from near and far return to campus to reconnect with old friends and celebrate their Bobcat pride.
